Paola Viganò is an architect, urbanist, PhD in Architecture. She is professor of urbanism Urban Theory and Urban Design at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL ) where she heads the Laboratory of Urbanism (lab-U) and the Habitat Research Center (HRC). She is also a professor at the University Institute of Architecture of Venice (IUAV). She is a founding member of the European Postgraduate Masters in Urbanism (EMU, European Postgraduate Masters in Urbanism - IUAV Venice, KU Leuven, TU Delft, UPC Barcelona) and coordinates this program in Venice. In 2012 and 2013, she was a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design (Harvard University). She founded Studio Associato Secchi-Viganò with Bernardo Secchi in 1990 and continues it as Studio Paola Viganò from 2015. Paola Viganò was awarded the 2013 Grand Prix de l’Urbanisme (France). In 2016, she was awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa by the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL). In 2017 she received the Ultimas 2016 Architecture Prize, from the Flemish Ministry of Culture. In 2018 she received the Career Gold Medal from the Milan Triennale. Paola Viganò conducts research and project simultaneously, from territorial and landscape studies to urban and architectural projects in an international context.
