Mattias Qviström is professor in landscape architecture, especially spatial planning, at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala. His research concerns the interface between landscape and planning, using landscape theory, relational geography/ANT, ethnographic studies and history to reveal the troubled interplays. Urbanisation and mobilities are two recurrent themes, which he has explored in relation to everyday landscapes. His research includes studies of the history of how modern ideas of speed and access materialised in road planning, the history and contemporary discourse concerning peri-urban planning, the history and ideals of recreational planning, the history and contemporary practice of recreational running, and conceptual studies of the idea of mobility and place in transit-oriented development.
