André Klaassen

André is a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Antwerp. With a background in political science and urban planning, he is interested in the interplay between the built environment and people’s daily realities. Using ethnographic research, he has studied racial and class-based injustices in planning policy and has worked on various projects to promote the use of local knowledge and materials in rural-urban planning and design.

André received his MSc in political science from Stockholm University and his MSc in urban planning from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Prior to the TOD-IS-RUR project, he worked as a program coordinator at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). He has also conducted a traineeship at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels and has been a long-time member of the idea-driven organisation Architectural Environmental Strategies.
