Prof. dr. Ann Verhetsel (1960) is Full Professor Economic Geography/Regional Economics at the Faculty Business and Economics of the University of Antwerp. She obtained a PHD in Sciences /Geography (1989), and studied master programs in urban planning and in economics. Her focus lies at the intersection of these three research fields: geography, urban planning and economics. Ann Verhetsel teaches Location of Economic activities, Real Estate and Location, Urban Geography at the University of Antwerp and Real Estate Markets at the Antwerp Management School. She developed research in the field of mobility and urbanisation through a series of projects on traffic models, commuting and urbanisation, accessibility, mobility management, urban logistics, mobility hubs. Parallel research was done in the field of location of commercial activities, as well on retail, offices and logistics. She built up a lot of expertise in relation to the spatial analysis of detailed geographical data. She also led projects on urban design and participation. She is since 10 years Head of the Department of Transport and Regional Economics of her Faculty. Currently she is Program Director of the Master Real Estate at the Antwerp Management School. From 2018 -2021 she was Chair of the Flemish Association of Planners (Vereniging Ruimte en Planning). She is member of the Royal Academy of Sciences.
